Hello!
Since this is my first post, and first attempt at blogging, I need to give a little bit of background as to why I am creating a blog. I always thought blogs were silly, to be quite frank, but I've decided it might be a good way for people who are interested to see what I'm up to, and it gives me something else to do besides stalk through people's creepbook profiles. Yes, you know what I'm talking about. And I've seen some pretty interesting blogs by my friends, so I decided that I too can jump on this bandwagon. If it gets too silly, or too demanding, I'll probably just jump off again. But in the meantime, let's see what all the fuss is about, and perhaps even put the thing to good use.
For my first adventure, (well, first BLOGGED adventure) I've chosen to attempt the 25 day Christmas Baking Challenge. It was inspired partly by my friend Beth, and partly by the movie "Julia and Julia." I've modified it from my original idea so I don't have to bake EVERY single day, I can cook if I want to do that instead. Basically the idea is that in the next 25 days leading up to Christmas, I bake or cook at least one item, and then I blog about what I did and how it turned out.
I might post recipes too, but I'm not really sure how this copyright thing works with other people's recipes and blogs, so I'll leave that until I find out. Of course if it's my recipe, or something I got word of mouth etc, then I can post away :)
Why am I starting today rather than Dec 1? Partly because I already made something :P and partly because that leaves Christmas empty if I don't feel like baking Christmas day.
So! To start this off:
Breakfast!Dutch Baby Egg Dish
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
4 eggs
Combine all in blender. Heat oven to 425F.
Grease an all-metal iron frying pan or Dutch baby pan
Pour contents from blender into frying pan and put in oven for 12 minutes, or until it puffs slightly and a fork comes out clean :)
Serve with icing sugar, butter and lemon juice, or maple syrup.
Best served hot and immediately following baking. Doesn't refrigerate well.
YUM! Success :) I've made these before, but today I did a Christmas version, with cinnamon, ginger and cloves sprinkled on top before baking. I served it with just icing sugar and it was good, although next time I'd put butter on it too.
Happy Baking!
P.S. I just made a second item today: Sage Butternut Squash. It is currently in the oven so I have no comment on how it turned out yet. :P
